Cirsa has officially acquired a controlling stake in Sociedade Figueira Praia, the operator of Casino Figueira in Portugal. The transaction was finalized on July 21, 2026, marking the company's entry into the land-based casino market on the Iberian Peninsula.
Casino Figueira is located in Figueira da Foz, a major tourist destination along the Atlantic coast. The establishment holds a gaming license dating back to 1948 under the previous name Casino da Figueira. It is recognized as one of the oldest operating casinos in the region.
Strategic Expansion in Portugal
The acquisition supports Cirsa's omnichannel strategy by combining land-based and online operations. This move follows the group's purchase of the digital operator CasinoPortugal.pt in December 2024. Joaquim Agut, executive chairman of Cirsa, described the deal as a new milestone that enables a fully integrated entertainment offering across retail and online channels.
Antonio Hostench, CEO of Cirsa, noted that the casino brings deep market expertise and a strong track record to the group. The management team will continue to support the asset during this transition. The transaction reinforces the company's position in the European market.
Previously, Cirsa focused on digital platforms before expanding into physical locations. The purchase of CasinoPortugal.pt in late 2024 served as the initial step in establishing a Portuguese footprint.
